Quick and Easy Salmon Appetizer

These salmon cream cheese roll-ups are an easy and incredibly popular appetizer that is so easy to make and ready in no time! I often serve these delicious bite-size appetizers at parties, for brunch, or as a starter before a delicious dinner. The salmon roll-ups not only look visually appealing, but they also taste so fresh and go perfectly well with something bubbly.

Making a delicious fish appetizer couldn’t be any easier. These easy salmon roll-ups are simply made by rolling up a crepe-like pancake (either tortilla wraps or egg pancakes) with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and chives. And the best part? They only take 15 minutes to make AND they can be made ahead!

Wrap Options for Roll-Ups

You can choose to make your salmon roll-ups with store-bought tortilla wraps or easy-to-make egg pancakes. It really depends on your preference—both options are absolutely delicious. The difference lies in taste and texture. Tortilla wraps are a bit more chewy and have a more neutral flavor compared to egg pancakes. Egg pancakes do have a bit more flavor and they also hold their shape better than salmon roll-ups made with wraps, though they do take a little longer to prepare.

Regardless of which pancake style you choose, making these salmon roll-ups is incredibly simple. Just spread cream cheese on the pancake, then add a layer of smoked salmon. Sprinkle with fresh chives and a bit of pepper. Roll the pancake as you would any roll-up and refrigerate until you’re ready to serve. Right before serving, slice the roll into bite-size pieces about 1 cm (0.4 inches) wide.

Salmon Roll-Ups can be Made Ahead

One of the great advantages of salmon rolls is that they can be prepared well in advance. This way, you don’t have to worry about last-minute prep while hosting guests or organizing a big event.

If you want to make your salmon roll-ups ahead, follow the recipe to fill and roll them, but wait to cut them until right before serving. They’ll hold their shape best if sliced just before they’re served.
